Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell to Star in 'Much Ado' on Broadway
Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell will star as Benedick and Beatrice in Jamie Lloyd’s boisterous reimagining of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, which will be staged on Broadway this fall after a successful run in London last year. Lloyd, who is also producing, has mounted five previous Broadway outings, including this season’s Waiting for Godot and last season’s Sunset Boulevard.
He announced a short, 10-week run but did not specify exact dates or the theater, saying only that it would play this fall at a house operated by the Shubert Organization. Hiddleston, best known for playing Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was nominated for a Tony Award for his one previous Broadway show, a 2019 revival of Pinter’s Betrayal that was also directed by Lloyd.
Atwell, who played Agent Peggy Carter and has significant London stage experience, will make her Broadway debut; the pair will portray the reluctant lovers Benedick and Beatrice (Hiddleston is 45 and Atwell is 43).
