Goal reports Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Souza from Santos, with Fabrizio Romano saying the clubs have agreed a deal worth around €15 million and that personal terms are in place, leaving the left-back set to be the club's first signing of the January window. Spurs have endured a dismal season and currently sit 14th in the Premier League, prompting calls for reinforcements.

The club view Souza as defensive depth: his arrival would allow Djed Spence to challenge Pedro Porro at right-back and provide specialist back-up to Destiny Udogie; Spence had previously been used at left-back despite being right-footed. South American expert Tim Vickery told Sky Sports Souza is "very impressive," describing him as a 19-year-old, physically strong and versatile full-back who has defended and attacked well while playing for Santos in a relegation battle, and said the player is already on Carlo Ancelotti's radar for Brazil's 2026 World Cup squad.

Manager Thomas Frank insists he is not worried about his future despite winning one of their last six games. After a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth he said, "I haven't seen that situation... I think hopefully everyone can see how hard it works to get everything in the right direction...
