Trinity Rodman stars as Emma Hayes says she knows USWNT core after January camp
Emma Hayes’ January USWNT camp offered clarity as the team cruised to shutout wins over Paraguay and Chile, scoring 11 goals across two matches; Hayes said, “I know which group of players we’re going to be building around in the build-up to World Cup qualification.” Stock up: Trinity Rodman.
Rodman returned to the pitch for the USWNT and, despite some rust, scored two goals across the two games to bring her total to 13 for the senior team. She wore the captain’s armband against Paraguay, had just signed a multimillion-dollar deal with the Washington Spirit two days earlier, and emerged as a clear favorite for an outside winger spot because of her scoring and taking-on defenders.
Stock up: Emily Sams. Sams started, captained the team on Tuesday and produced a composed outing that included an assist and her first USWNT goal. Hayes praised Sams’ quiet leadership, compared her to Emily Sonnett and said of her development, “I think she needs to go to another level… and she’s going to kick on there.” Sams’ impending move to Angel City in the NWSL was noted as another chance to progress.
Stock up: Ally Sentnor. Sentnor’s finishing and versatility continued to impress; she scored twice in the 6-0 win over Paraguay, bringing her senior team total to six goals. At 21 she has earned 14 caps and seven starts, captained the U.S. U20s at the 2024 U20 World Cup and made her senior debut on Nov.
