Tuchel must not repeat Amorim's mistake with Kobbie Mainoo — Goal

Kobbie Mainoo was on the periphery under Ruben Amorim but has re-established himself at Manchester United under Michael Carrick, looking every bit part of the club’s present as well as its future. He broke into the England senior squad in March 2024, bypassing the Under-21s, and started all of England’s knockout games at Euro 2024 as they reached the final.

Since then he has made only one appearance for the Three Lions, his international chances hampered by injury and a run of substitute appearances at club level that left him out of Amorim’s plans. Under Carrick he has been reborn — covering more ground than any team-mate in three of the last four matches, winning the most duels and take-ons against Tottenham, and providing a key lay-off for Bryan Mbeumo’s opener, his second assist in four games.

Carrick praised how Mainoo found his rhythm quickly after a period out and said there is more to come.
