People reports Baltimore Ravens kicker Tyler Loop was hit with a wave of hateful social media comments after his missed 44-yard field goal sealed Baltimore's 26-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Dec. 4, knocking the team out of the playoffs.

Loop's Instagram was flooded with expletives and repeated posts, including one user who spammed "Folks ain't gone keep being patient with you" nearly a dozen times, and several commenters urged him to "get a new job" on a pinned post announcing his engagement to fiancée Julia Otto; some users said they felt bad the rookie was receiving so much hate. The 24-year-old's final kick was unsuccessful, and coach John Harbaugh was seen comforting Loop with his arm around him as they walked back to the locker room.

Loop told reporters he will lean into his faith as he processes the loss, saying, "Faith is a big part of my life...Right now, I’m reminding myself that God’s got my back even when stuff sucks." Quarterback Lamar Jackson said he "was kind of livid when he kicked the ball out of bounds," but added he told Loop to "leave it in the past, man."
