Tyrell Malacia, the 26-year-old Manchester United left-back, has reportedly been left furious after the club blocked a proposed loan move to Turkey while he was at the airport preparing to board, Dutch outlet Voetbal International said. VI says United technical director Jason Wilcox called Malacia at the final moment and ordered him not to board the plane, despite the player having been given the green light to travel and complete a medical with the Turkish club.

The intervention has left the player’s camp in a state of "disbelief" and "anger," VI adds. Malacia had been pursuing the temporary move as a chance to restart his career and get regular minutes after a long injury layoff. Malacia has struggled for game time since returning from a complex meniscus injury that kept him out for more than 18 months.

He was loaned to PSV last season but started only six of the 12 games he played and has made just one senior appearance for United this season, a two-minute cameo against Newcastle. United’s decision is described as baffling in the report given left-back options at the club: Luke Shaw is fit and Noussair Mazraoui has been preferred, although an injury to Patrick Dorgu reportedly led the club to keep Malacia as cover.
