Ubisoft Cancels Prince of Persia Remake Amid Company Restructuring
Kotaku reports Ubisoft has canceled its Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake as part of a wider company restructuring that has scrapped six in-development games and delayed seven titles.
The restructuring follows Ubisoft's January 21 announcement tied to a $1.25 billion Tencent deal that will separate parts of the publisher and regroup them into new studios focused on specific brands and IP. Ubisoft said it conducted a review of its content pipeline over December and January, and chose to refocus its portfolio, reallocate resources, and revise its roadmap over the next three years.
The Prince of Persia remake was first revealed in September 2020 and was initially set to launch in 2021. It faced repeated delays, was moved between studios, and was effectively restarted in May 2022 when Ubisoft Montréal took over. The project was re-announced at Summer Game Fest 2024 with a small teaser and a 2026 date, reconfirmed in June 2025, and is now canceled about six months later.
Ubisoft said the canceled projects did not meet the company’s "new enhanced quality" levels. The canceled slate includes the Prince remake, three new IPs, and a mobile game, while seven other titles have been given more time to meet quality benchmarks. One delayed game that was scheduled for fiscal year 2026 and is now moving to fiscal year 2027 is believed to be the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake.
