According to People, Sheinelle Jones’ husband, Uche Ojeh, died in May 2025 at 45 after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma.

Jones and Ojeh met at Northwestern University in the late 1990s, dated for eight years and married on Sept. 2, 2007, in Philadelphia. They had three children — son Kayin (born August 2009) and fraternal twins Clara and Uche (born July 2012). Ojeh earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science with an economics concentration in 2001, worked as a consultant for IBM and Accenture, and was managing partner at UAO Consulting from 2008 until his death. He was also described as hailing from Nigeria and completed a triathlon in October 2023.

Jones stepped away from Today in mid-December 2024 to care for Ojeh and announced an extended break in January 2025 after her last appearance that December; his death was later announced on Today by her coworkers. After it was announced in December 2025 that she would be the new permanent co-host of the fourth hour of Today, Jones spoke about navigating grief, saying, "For those of you who are holding something, whether it’s grief or pain or whatever you’re holding. I just want you to know, if you see me here, that means you can do it too," and, "And we’re all gonna fight for our joy."
