Manchester United beat Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates, a result that coincided with Casemiro showing renewed influence under Michael Carrick. The midfielder, who the report says will depart Manchester United this summer, completed the 90 minutes and was praised for his form as Kobbie Mainoo continues to learn alongside him.

Arsenal’s performance was error-strewn: they twice allowed Bruno Fernandes sights of goal and Martín Zubimendi’s underhit back pass led to Bryan Mbeumo’s equaliser. The defeat was Arsenal’s first home loss of the campaign, the first time they have conceded three goals in a game in more than two years, their only loss this season after going ahead and their first league defeat to United at home since 2017, leaving their lead trimmed to four points.

Newcastle were criticised for a lack of creativity after a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa, with Eddie Howe acknowledging there is a “valid argument for everything” when results go wrong and saying the next chance to change the squad will be in the summer. The report notes Howe invested the best part of £180m last summer in Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga and suggested finding solutions with the current players is now the priority.
