Villarreal have completed the signing of U.S. international Alex Freeman from Orlando City on a six-year deal running through 2032, Goal reported. The 21-year-old right back arrives after a breakout 2025 season.

Freeman’s profile rose significantly in 2025: he became a consistent starter, won MLS Young Player of the Year and was named an MLS All-Star, establishing himself as one of the league’s top full backs, Goal said.

The Yellow Submarine, currently fourth in LaLiga, added a full back viewed as ready to compete immediately in Spain’s top flight. His arrival follows Villarreal’s recent signing of Tani Oluwaseyi from Minnesota United and continues the club’s history of tapping the U.S. market dating back to Jozy Altidore in 2008.

Freeman has also broken into the U.S. men’s national team under Mauricio Pochettino and is positioned as a strong contender for the 2026 World Cup; moving to LaLiga should further strengthen his case as he steps up to a higher competitive level, Goal wrote.
