Warner Bros. Discovery Titles Dominate Golden Globes; 'One Battle After Another' and 'Hamnet' Win
At the Golden Globes on Sunday, projects from Warner Bros. Discovery won the most prizes, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another taking best motion picture — musical or comedy and multiple other awards, while Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet won best motion picture — drama. One Battle After Another was the ceremony’s most awarded film, winning in comedy, directing, screenplay and an acting category.
Hamnet won best drama and Jessie Buckley took best actress in a drama. Wagner Moura won best actor in a drama for The Secret Agent, becoming the first Brazilian man to win that category. First-time Globe winners included Timothée Chalamet, Rose Byrne, Rhea Seehorn and Jessie Buckley.
In television, Noah Wyle won for The Pitt and that series also won best television drama; Jean Smart won again for Hacks. Netflix took home prizes in the miniseries and animated film categories with Adolescence and KPop Demon Hunters, and the original film Sinners won awards for original score and a box-office and cinematic achievement prize after earning $278 million in the United States.
Paul Thomas Anderson name-checked the executive Michael DeLuca during his acceptance speech. The wins come as Netflix and Paramount pursue Warner Bros. Discovery — the outlet said Netflix proposed an $83 billion acquisition and Paramount launched a hostile takeover bid — a backdrop that has raised concern in Hollywood that a new owner might change theatrical plans or cut jobs.
