Westworld's Four Seasons Surge Back on Streaming
HBO has long been a home for prestige television, from crime dramas like The Sopranos and The Wire to fantasy epics such as Game of Thrones. The network has also branched into medical drama with The Pitt, starring Noah Wyle and Katherine LaNasa, while shows like Succession and newer entries such as Industry continue to shape its lineup.
In 2016, as HBO was nearing the end of its investment in Game of Thrones, the network launched Westworld. The sci-fi series, led by Jeffrey Wright, Ed Harris and Tessa Thompson, plays out at the intersection of the near future and a reimagined past in a world where every human appetite can be indulged without consequences.
HBO aired four seasons between 2016 and 2022 before abruptly canceling the show despite concrete plans for a fifth season. Now, four years after going off the air, Westworld is climbing back into global streaming charts and proving a popular weekend binge. The series holds scores of 80% from critics and 75% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
