Where the Schitt's Creek cast is now — Catherine O'Hara died Jan. 2026
Schitt's Creek debuted on CBC in 2015 and ran six seasons before wrapping in 2020; the Emmy-winning comedy has remained a comfort favorite and the cast have gone on to varied projects. One major development since the series ended: Catherine O'Hara died in January 2026 at age 71, the outlet reported.
The show was created and written by Dan Levy and his father Eugene Levy, who decided to end the series after season 6 so it could "go out on a high note." Its final season won a record-breaking nine Emmys, and Eugene told The New York Times, "Isn't that the perfect way to go?" Since the finale, Eugene Levy has hosted the travel series The Reluctant Traveler (premiered February 2023), appeared in Kacey Musgraves' Star-Crossed: The Film and a 2022 Nissan Super Bowl commercial, and co-wrote a behind-the-scenes Schitt's Creek coffee table book with Dan in October 2021.
Dan Levy has pursued on- and off-screen projects including announcing his directorial debut Good Grief in October 2022, hosting HBO Max’s cooking competition The Big Brunch (aired November 2022), and acting in The Idol and in season 4 of Netflix's Sex Education (September 2023). Catherine O'Hara, already a veteran of film and TV, had originally turned down the role of Moira before joining the cast; she won a Golden Globe in 2021 and later lent her voice to animated projects, appeared in Pixar's Elemental (June 2023) and reprised her Beetlejuice role in the 2024 sequel.
