Last night’s Golden Globes largely followed expectations on the winners, but several high-profile TV shows emerged as notable losers, including The White Lotus, Severance and Hacks, while UK viewers remained unable to watch the runaway hit The Pitt. The White Lotus entered the ceremony with six nominations and left empty-handed.

Five of those nods were concentrated in just two supporting categories, limiting its maximum haul to three awards, and the show no longer qualified as a limited series so all its nominations were in the drama field. Critics also judged this season the weakest yet, citing scripting problems, unresolved or overlong plotlines and a sense that off-screen drama had outpaced the series itself.

Severance was another disappointment after strong expectations: it was nominated for best drama and several acting awards but, according to the piece, its second season lost momentum and relied on showy direction. Jean Smart won again for Hacks despite what the article calls the show’s least enjoyable season, and her competitors included performers from shows that aren’t primarily comedies — a factor the piece suggests the Globes might address by widening their view of comedy.

Arguably the most glaring snub was felt in the UK. The Pitt, which won best drama and best actor and has amassed multiple other awards, is widely celebrated yet not available to UK viewers despite its second season showing in the US and much of the rest of the world.
