Why Tyra Banks agreed to be interviewed for the ANTM documentary

“Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model” debuts today on Netflix. Directors Daniel Sivan and Mor Loushy say they never expected the supermodel to agree to an interview. Loushy says, “I think that Tyra understood that this documentary is happening, and it’s in her hands if she wants to grant an interview or not,” adding that the multi-hyphenate participated in over four hours of interviews.

Sivan says the one ground rule for everyone, contestants and Banks alike, was clear: “We would love to interview you, but everything is on the table. There’s nothing that’s going to be censored. You’re not going to get to see it.” As of our interview on Feb. 11, Banks had still not seen the series.

She declined to discuss her deteriorated relationship with former ANTM creative director Jay Manuel, a refusal Sivan called “one of the most honest answers,” and praised her for not offering a “pre-prepared … p.r.
