Will Trent Season 4: Rodríguez on therapy, the Ulster cliffhanger and new romances
Collider reports Ramón Rodríguez said Season 4 of ABC’s Will Trent pushes the title character into unconventional therapy and emotional unraveling, and that the premiere ends on a cliffhanger after James Ulster escapes from prison.
Rodríguez described the season as focused on Will confronting rage and past trauma through therapy sessions with Dr. Roach (Margaret Cho), including a memorable pickleball technique meant to get him out of his head. The premiere, which picks up five months after Season 3’s attack on the GBI, also layers in Angie’s pregnancy, Ormewood’s medical issues and the newly revealed relationship with Sheriff Caleb Roussard, while Rodriguez — who directed the episode — staged a reversed reconstruction sequence to heighten the tension and contrast between the outside world and the prison storyline.
Looking ahead, Rodríguez said the show remains open to bringing back Sara Linton and that there will be new romances and love interests to explore; he also called the cliffhanger “one hell of a cliffhanger,” saying episode two will reveal what happened and continue to test Will’s moral limits. Rodriguez added the writers and producers are mindful about how any returning or new characters would be integrated into the season, which he says is already well underway.
