Winterspell turns Lorcana’s Boost into a deckbuilding engine

Boost, a keyword that lets you put the top card of your deck facedown under a character, debuted in Whispers in the Well and had been only sporadically used. There were just 18 characters with Boost and a handful of supporting cards, but Winterspell significantly expands the mechanic, roughly doubling the number of Boost cards and introducing the first Actions and Locations that interact with it.

New Winterspell cards show how Boost can scale beyond one-off effects. Low-cost examples like Hercules – Spectral Demigod can net 3/3 by round two, while Wreck-It Ralph – Raging Wrecker gains strength for each card under him and can banish matching characters when he leaves play.

Other additions, such as Genie – Magical Researcher and Scrooge McDuck – Ghostly Ebenezer, increase stats or lore based on cards tucked beneath them, turning Boost into a repeatable source of growth rather than a single trigger. Locations and Actions broaden the toolkit.
