Witchbrook leans on practical, relaxed study in its magical university sim
Gamesradar reports that Chucklefish’s upcoming RPG Witchbrook will "take a practical approach to education, and dial back any time pressures," producer Rosie Ball says, as the team balances cozy life-sim rhythms with the framework of a magic university.
Ball describes a system with a "major focus on learning by doing," where lessons are task-based and largely happen outside the classroom. Assignments send players into the neighbouring town of Mossport to diagnose problems, research cures in the library, harvest herbs in the woods, brew remedies in alchemy labs and deliver them to residents to earn merits and tips; studied information on herbs and "subjects, items, activities, and spells" becomes "locked into your knowledge collection."
Witchbrook has been in development for over a decade and was recently delayed from an initial Winter 2025 release window. Chucklefish says every design decision has been considered through a multiplayer lens so the game is complete solo or in four-player multiplayer, and Ball adds that while graduation is a key goal, academics will be only part of a wider experience with "plenty of activities" and an emphasis on a good work/ life balance.
