WoW’s new housing launched early as a major, standalone feature of Midnight
Polygon reports that World of Warcraft's new housing system, added in December for players who preordered the Midnight expansion, is a freestanding feature technically part of the 11th expansion Midnight but launched separately — three months before the expansion release date and six weeks before the pre‑patch.
Players who own Midnight can purchase and customize a house, while others can still visit friends’ houses or collect décor. A guided questline grants a free plot in an endlessly instanced Neighborhood of a few dozen random players, with options to form neighborhoods with a guild or, in the future, ad hoc groups of friends.
Interiors are larger-on-the-inside, expandable via House XP, and allow custom floorplans, extra floors, and extensive decoration drawn from across WoW’s history; exteriors can be embellished but are somewhat more limited. Decorating offers Basic and Advanced modes, and limits on floorplan size, room options, and décor capacity expand as houses gain House XP.
