WoW pruned classes for Midnight to remove addon-dependent complexity — Pcgamer

World of Warcraft has redesigned its specialisations for Midnight so they work without UI mods. Addons had been automating much of the complexity: an outlaw rogue, for example, relied on an addon to tell them when to cast Roll the Bones because it tracked several separate, randomly generated buffs.

Reaction to the pruning has been mixed. Some specs adapted well, while others lost major pieces of their toolkit; associate game director Paul Kubit calls player feedback 'passionate' and says players are tightly tied to their classes, since a class is "your window into how you play the game." Some changes have already been reverted, such as to the Paladin, after loud player response.

Kubit used Roll the Bones as an example of an ability that became complicated because its design settled into an expectation that competitive players would use computational addons. The team says tuning plans are coming and that much of the rest will be guided by player feedback.
