Writer argues five films should not be on Letterboxd's Top 250
Collider published a piece by William Smith arguing that five films do not belong on Letterboxd's Top 250 Narrative Feature Films. Smith names The Departed (2006), Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc (2025), Django Unchained (2012), The Green Mile (1999), and Life Is Beautiful (1997).
He calls The Departed a lower-tier Scorsese and notes several of the director’s purportedly stronger films are missing from the list, including Casino, The Last Temptation of Christ, After Hours, The Irishman and Killers of the Flower Moon, with Raging Bull and Taxi Driver also absent.
On Chainsaw Man he credits his enjoyment but attributes its placement to recency bias and suggests anime classics such as Ghost in the Shell or Perfect Blue have been overlooked. He criticizes Django Unchained for its controversies over violent content, racial politics and historical accuracy, and for what he views as an unfocused narrative and a weak lead.
