Chelsea ended a brief wobble with a 2-0 win over Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, goals from Keira Walsh and Alyssa Thompson either side of half-time restoring momentum. The victory halted back-to-back defeats and left Sonia Bompastor’s side nine points behind leaders Manchester City, who lost 1-0 to Arsenal earlier on Sunday.

Tottenham remained fifth after failing to capitalise on early chances, Olivia Holdt having hit the crossbar before Walsh opened the scoring from a half-cleared Erin Cuthbert corner. Madonna, who had watched her daughters play in an under-14 academy game on Saturday, attended the senior match with her partner Akeem Morris.

Thompson added the second after Sjoeke Nüsken’s shot was saved by Lize Kop, sealing Chelsea’s return to winning ways. Liverpool climbed off the bottom with a 4-1 win over Aston Villa.
