Zach Cregger's Resident Evil Is a 'Complete New Set Up' — Movieweb

Constantin Film CEO Oliver Berben called Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil a “complete new set up” for the franchise and said it would be “far away from everything that is connected to Resident Evil, only because Zach Cregger has his own style.” The film is in post-production and is scheduled to hit theaters on Sept.

18, 2026. Cregger has said he never watched the previous films and instead based his approach on the experience of playing the games. A longtime fan—especially of Resident Evil 4—he aims to deliver a cinematic take that honors the source material. The reboot will not directly adapt a single game or include a major legacy character, though it should still contain franchise references.

Daniel Ritchman has named Austin Abrams as playing a medical courier making a delivery to Raccoon City General Hospital.
