ZDNET reviewer finds DeWalt 60V Max electric snow blower a capable alternative to gas model
A ZDNET reviewer in Cleveland tested DeWalt's 60V Max single-stage electric snow blower after their gas-powered two-stage Troy-Bilt failed to start while they were preparing for an incoming storm. The reviewer noted several design features, including an all-steel auger, electronic paddle controls for chute rotation, and a control panel with battery-level LEDs.
The unit ships with two 60V batteries and chargers; assembly reportedly takes only a few moments and the reviewer said both batteries together provided about 45 minutes of run time while clearing their driveway and sidewalk sections twice before draining half their power. DeWalt claims the model can clear a 32-car driveway, and the blower has three power modes including an eco mode for light powder and a heavy-duty mode for wet or compacted snow.
The reviewer cautioned that, like other single-stage blowers, the DeWalt 60V Max is not self-propelled and the chute ejection angle must be adjusted manually. They also said they had initial reservations about how well a single-stage unit would handle deep or heavy snow, and their main complaint was that the blower does not include a chute-clearing tool, which they described as a potential safety hazard.
ZDNET's buying advice called the DeWalt 60V Max an impressive unit for its size, citing the three power modes, electric chute controls, lightweight handling and the steel auger.
