Human skin is the outer covering of the body, providing protection, sensation, and regulation of body temperature. It is the largest organ in the human body and is composed of multiple layers. The outermost layer is called the epidermis, which acts as a barrier against external elements and contains cells called melanocytes that produce melanin, giving skin its color. Below the epidermis is the dermis, which contains blood vessels, nerves, hair follicles, and sweat glands. The dermis provides structural support and helps regulate body temperature.
