The planet Earth

Approximately 71% of the Earth's surface is covered by water, making it a predominantly watery planet. The total volume of water on Earth is estimated to be around 1.386 billion cubic kilometers (332.5 million cubic miles). This includes water in the form of oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, groundwater, ice caps, glaciers, and atmospheric water vapor. The majority of Earth's water, about 97.5%, is found in the oceans. The remaining 2.5% exists as freshwater, with the majority of it trapped in ice caps and glaciers. Groundwater, rivers, lakes, and atmospheric water make up a smaller fraction of the freshwater resources available. It's important to note that while water covers a significant portion of the Earth's surface, only a small fraction of it is readily accessible for human use. Access to clean freshwater is a vital resource, and its sustainable management is crucial for the well-being of both humans and the planet.
