Allied Airborne Forces conduct immediate response training in coordination with Greek Special Forces 23
Dutch and US NATO allied paratroopers parachuted into Greece with Greek Special Forces during Exercise Rapid Response 23.
Soldiers from the US Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade, along with colleagues from the Royal Dutch Army's 11th Air Assault Brigade and the Greek 1st Special Forces Parachute Brigade, flew into an airdrop zone near Thessaloniki. After securing the drop zone, soldiers conducted a mock occupation of Larissa airfield with the help of Hellenic Air Force and CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
A detachment of U.S. Air Force A-10C Thunderbolt II jets supported the exercise, conducting mock attacks in support of ground forces.
The focus of this annual US-led exercise is to further strengthen the ability of Allied Airborne Forces to conduct airborne operations in enemy-occupied territory. At this year's competition, paratroopers landed in Estonia, Greece and Spain. Swift Response 23 is part of Defender 23, a series of exercises focused on testing the United States' ability to respond rapidly to crises across Europe.
The footage includes footage of Dutch, Greek and US paratroopers landing in Greece and attacking airfields, A-10C aircraft taking off and landing, and interviews with Greek Army and US Air Force officers. .
