Eastern Front: 1942
The initial Axis invasion of the Soviet Union ended in overextension of their forces, and the Red Army counterattacked them during the winter. The fights eventually came to a stalemate. In the summer of 1942, both sides planned to launch a major offensive to inflict a final defeat on their opponent. The question was who would get the initiative first.
