*Press-note on Razorpay session*
Cyberabad police Commissionerate on 13th of July along with Razorpay conducted a full-day interaction session between the payment aggregator and Law Enforcement Authorities. Members of Police from tri-commissionerate and other districts and Battalion forces attended the same. Here Razorpay explained the evolution of the digital financial payment ecosystem that India has today. Beginning with a brief introduction by DCP Cybercrimes Ritiraj, the session was addressed by Commissioner of Police Cyberabad Stephen Raveendra, IPS., who explained about how the criminal activities today have become organized and increasingly intertwined with the financial payments system. He spoke about the importance of such knowledge sharing between the LEAs and different stakeholders from the financial payment network, so that we can work together in catching the criminals more effectively and identifying the loopholes in procedures adopted by these payment aggregators and gateways.
The session began with the difference between payment gateways and payment aggregators. They explained how they have developed a KYC verification mechanism by categorizing merchants despite not being mandated by the RBI. They expounded on the interconnection and cash flow between customer, payment gateway and aggregator, both their banks and merchants. They detailed about their proactive methods to weed out the fraudulent merchants who may have been on boarded due to forging of documents etc.
One of the most important sessions was about the Razorpay Portal launched on 5th of July for the LEAs. This will prevent the need of sending in individual mails and decrease the turnaround time of receiving replies from Razorpay. With such improved coordination, we will go a long way in making our digital payments mechanism robust and safe for our citizens to use.
