In a significant development, the National Highways and Motorway Police have raised the fine rates for traffic violations by a whopping 200%! These revised penalty rates, now effective from October 1, come alongside the introduction of seven new traffic violation codes under Schedule 12. Under these updated regulations, over speeding will now incur a fine of Rs 2500, a substantial increase from the previous Rs 750. Similarly, wrong overtaking will cost offenders Rs 1500, up from the earlier Rs 300, while driving without a license will result in a hefty fine of Rs 5000, compared to the previous Rs 750.
