Leaf sheep is a unique kind of sea slug. Here's a brief introduction: Leaf sheep, scientifically known as Costasiella kuroshimae, are tiny sea slugs that are known for their distinctive and adorable appearance. They have a vibrant, eye-catching color palette, generally a green body with a white face, adorned with yellow and black "horns." Uniquely, they are one of few creatures that can perform photosynthesis. They dwell in the waters close to Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines. These tiny creatures typically measure just 5mm in length, making them incredibly elusive and hard to spot. Their diet mainly consists of algae. Leaf sheep use chloroplasts from the algae they eat in a process called kleptoplasty, thanks to which they can perform photosynthesis just like plants do. This is a rare ability among animals, making leaf sheep quite extraordinary. Their nickname, "leaf sheep," comes from their plant-like appearance and their capacity to convert sunlight into energy, same as plants. Despite their small size, leaf sheep have made a big impression on divers and marine biology enthusiasts around the world with their unique features and almost cartoonish charm.
