How To ACTUALLY Cut Your Cuticles

Hey! I'm a dual-licensed nail Technician and cosmetologist. Great video! I just wanted to share some helpful info because cuticles really are a very tricky area to deal with and to fully understand! The tissue you cut is still part of the eponychium. Just because you can't quite feel anything unfortunately does not mean it is safe to cut or that it is "dead" skin. The cuticle is only the tissue extending onto the nail plate. The edge of the eponychium is harder like a callous because it is creating that barrier of protection between bacteria and the nail and skin of the finger (like you said). Once cut, softer more vulnerable tissue is now exposed. It can be very tempting to want to remove all the skin there because of how it looks and feels but it unfortunately isn't safe. Also when you cut this part of the eponychium, the living skin around it will respond by regrowing that area stronger for protection, resulting in the vicious cycle of "bad" cuticle and even hangnails. This is similar to how callouses behave if removed fully. After all, they do occur to help protect our skin ???? i hope this helps clear up any confusion on this area!
