Paris (French: Paris), formerly called by the Arabs, is the capital of France and its most populous city. It is located on the banks of the Seine in the northern part of the country in the heart of the Ile-de-France region. It had a population of 2,243,833 in 2010 within its administrative scope only, while the population of the city with its suburbs exceeds 12 million.
