Although brown bears have a small distribution and have faced local extinctions, they are still classified as “non-threatened” by the International Conservation Union, with a total population of approximately 200,000. The main countries where it is widespread are Russia, the United States (mostly in Alaska), Canada, the Carpathian Mountains (especially those in Romania) and Finland, where it is an international animal. Of the three most widespread species of bears, including polar bears and American black bears, brown bears are the most geographically widespread.
