The Social Dimension of Fasting: A Prophetic Narration on Empathy and Equity

It is narrated from Hazrat Imam Sadiq (a.s.) that Hisham bin Huqam was asked about the reason for fasting, and he said: "Fasting has become obligatory so that equality between the poor and the rich is established, and it is for this reason that That the rich should also taste the hunger and pay the right of the poor, because the rich usually provide for what they want. (2) Let him feel sorrow so that he may have mercy on the weak and needy. (1)
