Elephants are the largest land animals on Earth, characterized by their long trunks, large ears, and tusks (in some species). They belong to the family Elephantidae and are divided into three species: the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant. Elephants are known for their intelligence, social behavior, and complex emotions. They live in diverse habitats, including savannas, forests, and grasslands, and are herbivores, primarily feeding on vegetation such as grasses, leaves, bark, and fruits. Elephants have a highly developed sense of smell, excellent memory, and strong family bonds, often living in matriarchal herds led by the oldest female. They play a crucial role in shaping their ecosystems and are considered keystone species. However, elephants face threats such as habitat loss, poaching for their ivory tusks, and conflicts with humans, leading to conservation concerns for their survival.
