The leopard
The leopard (or panther), scientifically known as Panthera pardus, is a feline from the subfamily Pantherinae. Here are some fascinating characteristics of this animal:
Appearance:
The leopard has a golden-yellow coat with rosette patterns. There’s also a melanistic form known as the Black Panther. Its tail can grow up to 3.6 feet (1.1 meters) in length. The legs are relatively short, but the feet are broad. Rounded ears complete its distinctive look .
Size and Weight:
Leopards have a long, muscular body with wide paws. Well-developed pectoral muscles allow them to climb trees. On average, males weigh around 128 lbs (58 kg), while females weigh about 82 lbs (37 kg). The largest specimens can reach up to 198 lbs (90 kg) and are mainly found in Central Asia, Iran, South Africa, certain parts of Kenya, and the tropical forests of Central Africa .
