Origin of the name Mount Everest

Origin of the name Mount Everest. Located in the Himalayas and the highest peak in the world, the name Mount Everest is taken from the name of British surveyor general Sir George Everest. The name Everest began to be used in 1865 by Sir Andrew Waugh as a tribute to Sir George Everest who was his predecessor. Reported by the PBS.org website, Mount Everest has a peak as high as 29,029 feet or the equivalent of 8,848 meters, which makes it the highest peak on the entire planet Earth. Apart from Everest, other highest peaks are also in the Himalayas, such as Mount K2 which is 8,611 meters high and Mount Kangchenjunga which is 8,586 meters high.
