The blue waxbill, also termed southerly blue waxbill, blue-fronted waxbill, southerly cordon-bleu, blue-cheeked cordon-bleu, blue-breasted cordon-bleu and Angola cordon-bleu, is a customary species of estrildid grosbeak originated in Southern Africa. It appears in southern Africa from Cabinda and the Congo to Kenya and Tanzania in the east south to northern South Africa. It may have been familiarized to the islands of S├гo Tom├й and to Zanzibar. It is also rather frequently kept as a birdcage bird. It mostly eats grass kernels, which are acquired from the flowerings. This is complemented with termites and other bugs. It has also been verified eating the dropped fruits of Boscia albitrunca. They are usually seen in duos or family gatherings, but do form bigger herds which often blend in with herds of other estrildid bramblings
