Bull Run in Topo, Sao Jorge Island, Azores
In some villages in the Azores, there is a tradition of organising a "bull run" for certain festivities. The bull is goaded and agitated by men trying to get him to charge. It is on a rope / leash which is controlled by a group of men trying to ensure it does not leave the dedicated bit of road, or injure any of the people goading it. It's a bit of an odd tradition, to say the least.
While taking a minibus tour of the island of Sao Jorge, we happened to drive into the village of Topo on the day when such a bull run was about to take place. Our driver asked the locals when it would start, and once it was clear that there was only a short wait, we decided to stick around and watch. These are the first few minutes of the bull run.
