Explanation of Surah Ar-Rahman (55:2) آلرَّحْمَٰنُ (1) عَلَّمَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ (2) "Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful). (1) He taught the Quran. (2)" Tafsir (Explanation): 1. Allah's Name "Ar-Rahman" (The Most Merciful) The Surah begins with one of Allah’s greatest names, Ar-Rahman, which emphasizes His infinite mercy and kindness toward His creation. It sets the tone that everything mentioned in the Surah is a sign of Allah’s mercy. 2. "He taught the Quran" This verse highlights that the Quran is a direct blessing from Allah, taught by Him to humanity. Allah not only revealed the Quran but also facilitated its understanding and guidance. Teaching the Quran is one of the greatest signs of Allah’s mercy because it provides the ultimate guidance for humanity. Some scholars interpret this to mean that Allah directly taught Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) the Quran through revelation via Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). Lessons from this Ayah: The Quran is the greatest blessing from Allah, even greater than material blessings. Knowledge of the Quran comes from Allah, and He makes it accessible to those who seek it sincerely. Since Allah has taught us the Quran, we must strive to understand and implement it in our lives. This verse beautifully connects Allah’s mercy to the gift of divine guidance through the Quran.
