In Nepal, a traditional village clay stove, known as a chulo, is commonly used in Kitchen for cooking. These stoves are made from clay, stone, bricksz iron rod and often fueled by wood or agricultural waste. They are an essential part of rural life, especially in remote areas, where modern cooking technologies are less accessible. The design of a chulo is simple but effective. It usually consists of a fire pit or chamber surrounded by clay walls, which help retain and radiate heat. The stove's chimney, typically a small opening or vent, allows smoke to escape. In some variations, a metal grate or plate is added to help regulate heat and improve cooking efficiency. These stoves are valued for their low cost and accessibility, but they also have significant downsides. The smoke produced can cause health issues, particularly respiratory problems, due to poor ventilation. In recent years, there has been an effort to introduce cleaner and more efficient cookstoves to reduce these health risks and the environmental impact.
