Freddie Mercury, Pink Floyd, and the Hero's Journey

I got the bad butterflies, not the happy butterflies like Christmas Eve. And then I would see these people. You know what really freaked me out? Because I'm growing up in the 70s and 80s. When you watch the Freddie Mercury, David Bowie video of Under Pressure, and I'm watching the sidewalk walkers or the shoving into the subway cart people, or even Pink Floyd brick in the wall. That stuff was hitting me, hitting me, hitting me, hitting me. And I said, you have to make a choice, child. You have to decide to liberate yourself, but have a skill, or you could be one of the best that climbs that ladder and fights for it every come. You hear the hero's journey. I'm supposed to leave the town. I'm supposed to go on an adventure and slay a dragon and come back and tell the tale. I needed to become a prince. I was willing to die for it. And sometimes Thomas, doctor, my friend, you need to be selfish in order to make long-term decisions for yourself. And as much as you want to please others, that's others' lives and their expectations for you. And you only get 100 years on this silly planet just to spin and have fun. So I disappointed so, but at the end, I guess I won. Why? By telling them I told you so? I didn't want to do that. It should have been set from the beginning.
