Why are these guys stomping the floor like that? It’s actually part of building a sumo wrestling ring, known as a dohyō!
First, workers pound down layers of clay using heavy wooden mallets to create a solid, elevated platform. Then, they carefully mark a 15-foot-wide circle before carving out the ring.
To define the boundary, rice straw bales are filled with clay and buried around the edges. Finally, a massive roof is suspended above the ring, completing this sacred battleground!
