Why Iran May Wait Until October 2023 To Send Missiles & Deadlier Drones To Russia l Ukraine War
Since September, Russia has launched hundreds of Iranian-supplied drones that have targeted critical infrastructure in Ukraine. Iran still has the capability to provide much faster drones and missiles to Moscow that it could use in Ukraine. But Tehran appears to be waiting out a key condition in a 2015 UN Security Council resolution that restricts Iranβs missile exports. Iran plans to limit the range and payload of any short-range ballistic missiles (SRBM) it supplies Russia, as per a recent Axios report. If Iran is caught violating that resolution, it could trigger the "snapback" of UN sanctions. The resolution was introduced in 2015 as part of the Iranian nuclear deal. If Tehran sends significant quantities of these weapons to Moscow, it can help continue Putinβs devastating attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. But why Iran will have to wait until October to send missiles and more drones to Russia?
