Zircon The hypersonic missile Putin hopes will turn tide in Ukraine

President Putin warned in December that Russian warships would be armed with the Zircon hypersonic missile in January. The Russian President hopes the missile will help turn the tide in his campaign in Ukraine. I can see that shore based Zircon (and ship based) could be very effective against, say, NATO ships attacking the Coast of Russia- but using them against land targets is just a waste- more than that, it risks a misfired or stray round falling into NATO hands. Hypersonic cruise missiles are one of the very few areas where Russia is in the lead tech-wise. Kinzhal is only hypersonic like an Iskander, but 3M22 looks like the real deal- I suspect more like Mach 5 than Mach 9 though- there's a big difference.
