The film is inspired by the online marketing campaign depicting a series of found footage videos about a fictional paranormal investigative team named the Paranormal Paranoids, as well as Stuckmann's own upbringing with his sister, who was shunned from Jehovah's Witness. Shelby Oaks had its world premiere at the 28th Fantasia International Film Festival on July 20, 2024, and is scheduled to be released in the United States by Neon on October 3, 2025.
