Plot summary M.K.'s ordeal: After being captured, M.K. finds refuge with the Widow, a rival Baron. He meets the Widow's daughter, Tilda, who befriends him. The Widow becomes suspicious that M.K. is the boy with special powers she has been looking for and tests him, but Tilda helps M.K. to deceive her. Sunny's loyalty is tested: Sunny's loyalty to Baron Quinn is tested when Quinn, paranoid and increasingly ruthless, orders him to commit a horrible act. This further solidifies Sunny's resolve to escape the Badlands with his pregnant lover, Veil. A deadly trap: Ryder is lured into a trap set by the Widow while attempting to reclaim his father's stolen opium from Nomads. The trap is revealed as a coordinated ambush intended to weaken Quinn's control. A partnership is forged: Sunny and M.K. are ambushed at the Nomad's turbine station, but M.K.'s help allows them to escape. Afterward, the two form a partnership. Sunny agrees to train M.K. as his Colt (apprentice) and to help him control his powers in exchange for M.K.'s assistance in their escape. Quinn's growing paranoia: Quinn learns of the Widow's plan and her use of M.K. against him. He almost kills M.K. but is convinced by Sunny to let M.K. become his Colt.
