WASHINGTON A prominent United States (US) senator has warned that Venezuela may soon face a regime change and urged President Nicolás Maduro to flee. The warning came as the US military gathered forces off the coast of the South American nation. In an interview with CBS News on Sunday, Senator Rick Scott, who serves on the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, stated that Maduros administration is nearing its end. His days are numbered, Scott said. Both internally and externally, I think something is going to happen, he added, suggesting that the Venezuelan leader should go to Russia or China. When asked whether the US would invade Venezuela, Scott replied that he would be surprised if that happened. The Republican senator from Florida is a prominent hardliner on Venezuela who has called Maduro an illegitimate and bloodthirsty dictator and co-authored the STOP MADURO Act of 2024, which offers a USD 100 million reward for information leading to the Venezuelan leaders arrest and conviction.
