A famous Mexican tribal dance is the Jarabe Tapatío, often referred to as the "national dance" and the "dance of the Mexican hat." This dance depicts a love story, in which the woman initially rejects and then eventually accepts the man's advances. Other tribal dances dating back to the pre-Hispanic era include the Danza de los Voladores (Dance of the Flyers), performed on a tall pole, and the Danza de los Viejitos (Dance of the Old Men) of the Purépecha people.
